OnPrem Timeline shows incorrect “Case resolved by” header for canceled Incident Resolution records after case reactivation in Dynamics 365 (on-prem)

Issue Created on: 23/05/2026 04:50 AM IST

Status: Resolved

Problem Details

Note: This issue only affects the on-premises version of Dynamics 365 and does not occur in the online version.

When a Case is resolved, reopened (reactivated), and then resolved again in the on-premises environment, the Timeline displays incorrect information for the original case resolution entry.

Expected behavior (same as Dynamics 365 Online):

  • The original case resolution record, which becomes canceled after the case is reopened, should display “Case re-activated by “.
  • The new resolution record created after resolving the case again should display “Case resolved by “.

Actual behavior in Dynamics 365 On-Premises:

  • Both resolution records display “Case resolved by “.
  • The canceled resolution entry incorrectly shows the user who reopened the case as the person who resolved it, instead of showing the original user who actually resolved the case.

  • Dynamics 365 Sales
  • Dynamics 365 Customer Insights – Journeys (former Marketing)
  • Dynamics 365 Customer Insights – Data (former Customer Insights)
  • Dynamics 365 Customer Service
  • Dynamics 365 Contact Center
  • Dynamics 365 Field Service
  • Microsoft Dataverse
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central
