Admin Center : Business Central Easy Selected Version Update Option

Microsoft has announced Dynamics 365 Business Central with a Cloud Admin Center, providing an option to quickly update selected versions directly from the Admin Center based on user needs.

Until now, we have faced challenges in updating the BC version to only the nearest available versions. This limitation has now ended. From now on, Administrator users can select and update to any released version based on their preference.

Following are version management related key changes:

Business Central also included a dedicated area for “Version Management” where you will complete information related to the update.

Under this option you will get following information’s

  • Application Version : The current version of Business Central that your system is using.
  • Platform Version : The version of the system’s underlying technology that runs Business Central.
  • Available Update Version : The latest update version available for your Business Central system.
  • Update Scheduling Available : Shows whether you can schedule an update for your system.
  • Update will start on or after : The earliest date when the system update will begin.
  • Update Window : The time period when updates can be installed on your system.
Pro Tip! Microsoft requires a minimum of 6 hours as the update window. Consider selecting a time with fewer active users for smooth operations; otherwise, users may see a popup saying, ' PLEASE WAIT WHILE THE CONNECTION IS RESTORED. IT SHOULDN'T TAKE LONG .'
  • Update Rollout State : The current status of the update process (e.g., pending, in progress, completed).
  • Apps Update Cadence : How frequently installed apps get updates (e.g., monthly, quarterly).

However, please note that this window will change in April 2025 itself with the Update Settings mentioned on next main content.

Target Version Selection Option Available in Business Central

By help of this release we are able to select right version suitable for us directly to any number. Also having flexibility to schedule future updates for non released versions as well. However, in this case once the Microsoft released said version with gap of 1 week to 2 week it will update auto. This feature helps Administrator instance management activity reduce another level with peace mind.

As you see lot more similarity with earlier Version Management tab used till now mentioned in last topic. Let us details for this.

  • Application Version : The current version of Business Central that your system is using.
  • Latest Available Version : The latest update version available for your Business Central system.
  • Next Update: This will next update available.
  • Update to next major before: Maximum deadline to update your apps after this period if not updated then Microsoft will perform force update.
  • Update Window : The time period when updates can be installed on your system.
  • Apps Update Cadence : How frequently installed apps get updates (e.g., monthly, quarterly).
